Created in 1993, Vertigo comics is an imprint under DC Comics which publish stories with more graphic or adult content outside the restrictions of the Comics Code Authority. The idea for Vertigo Comics originally ran under DC editor Karen Berger was designed to allow an edgier, more creative freedom than the main DC imprint. Many of the Vertigo comics contain controversial subjects not allowed under the restrictive nature of the Comic Codes Authority like explicit violence, substance abuse, sexuality, nudity and profanity.
What sets Vertigo 1st appearances apart from other small imprints is the amount of exposure they have had in other mediums outside of comics. This has included the major films V for Vendetta, Stardust and the television series iZombie and Preacher just to name a few.
Many of the Vertigo series like Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, Y: The Last Man and Fables went on to win Eisner Award's, the comic industry equivalent of winning an Emmy. It is for all of these reasons that Vertigo 1st Appearances have remained in demand as you can see below….
